Actually in most cities the water that comes directly out of your tap, is the same that water supplied to the fire hydrants. It is all supplied directly through the domestic system throughout the city.
However the sprinkler irrigation systems used to supply the cities landscape can come from reclaimed (dirty) water which is usually indicated with the use of purple piping. Just thought you should know - haha!
Never-the-less it still isn't a great idea to use the fire hydrants for drinking because the water inside the hydrants are stagnant and typically will have rust particles trapped inside. Hope this helps!

I often wonder if the water in the fire hydrant is the same as that which comes through my tap. My tap water has chlorine in it to kill any bacteria and it has fluorine to keep my family's dental bills low by protecting our teeth from tooth decay. Does fire hydrant water have the same additives, or is it straight from the river or lake?

An interesting discussion is worth comment. I think that you should write more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but, people don't generally talk about such topics. To the next. Cheers! ahh Happy New Year!

A simple brushing of the walls and steps once a week keeps your pool much cleaner than if you skip this important duty. The "brushing your teeth" analogy is exactly right! Brush off the dirt and let your filter do its job. And don't forget to clean your cartridge filter every 4-6 months.

Great read.. This was my First trip to your blog. Thanks for sharing this. I am going to bookmark this website. I was a inground pool mechanic for five years. My do-it-yourself tip of the day is: Do not attempt a hard work job without a professional. This will cost you additional money in the end. Thanks once again.....
